Have you ever wondered what it is like to be a Kim Kardashian for a day? Or really any celebrity for that matter? Well it turns out, going viral on social media isn’t that difficult, but timing is everything.
By definition, viral means relating to or involving an image, video, piece of information, etc. that is circulated rapidly and widely from one internet user to another. In simple terms, going viral means sharing media that is relative to popular belief or opinion.
For example, one of our comments went viral the other day on a popular page called House of Highlights. All we did is comment on a post with a comment and within just a couple of hours reached over two thousand likes.
The Results: in just one day our impressions went up 6.6%, profile visits up 469.4% and website tabs went up 550%.
First of all, there are a lot of areas to go viral on the internet. It can be a video, photo, comment, person, the algorithm, etc. that will help you get the massive exposure we all desire.
Second of all, just because you have something go viral, does not mean that it will result in instant fame or money. That’s not how “going viral” works.
Just like in traditional marketing you want to do your research and go to where the most of the people go and simply position yourself within that group differently. When you follow popular accounts you can tend to see what type of content is most popular to post.
One thing that helps get the exposure you want is to turn on post notifications. You can be on stand-by for when one of the popular accounts posts and be the first to comment! With our example we did exactly this. As soon as House of Highlights posted we commented something that was up for debate but most likely something another consumer would think after viewing the post. After a while and millions of people viewing the post, they would like your comment. And if you get enough likes pretty soon your comment will go viral and you will attract the right people.
Lastly, if you really desire having maximum exposure, you can pay for it. That’s right, with the right type of content and the right amount of cash in your pocket, you can pay to go viral. We have had clients in the past make a funny commercial and then simply pay on Facebook and Instagram for exposure until the post itself goes viral with organic reach and shares.
Going viral isn’t really that difficult, it just takes time and you can’t really predict when it will happen. Timing is everything, but if you are looking for a simple strategy for maximum exposure, try figuring out the accounts that are relative to you and turn on those post notifications.
